Ever since the first launch of Android Operating System in 2008, the mobile industry has drastically changed. Android is a Mobile Operating that primarily work in mobile handsets and it is managed by Google. The purpose of the Operating System is to control functionality and operations in SmartPhones. This OS (Operating Systems) was launched at a time where technology was gaining a peak.

Android OS

Android grew so substantial and started to replace many OS that operated before its release. The likes of Symbian OS by Nokia and BlackBerry OS are some of the major names that had to stop because of the pressure exerted by Android.

Here is what makes Android So Powerful and Special.
  • Device Compatibility.
Unlike other OS where a native Operating System was only designed to function in devices of a particular manufacturer (Like OS Bada that only worked in Samsung handsets), Android is not controlled by the manufacturer's name. Many manufacturers like Nokia, Alcatel, Motorola, and BlackBerry have devices that are compatible with Android Operating System.
  • Large Developer Community.
Stats show that there are over 2.8 million Apps on Google Play, with over 82 billion downloads. This is the highest number of applications online compared to those of Apple App Store, Windows Store, and BlackBerry World. Android gets this edge because of the large developer's community that contributes to their App Store.

Almost every application that is made, is primarily made with the focus of operating on Android. Google Apps System supports various programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, C#, C++, and HTML+. This makes users to have a wide range selection to quality apps and many features on their phones.
  • Secured Google Security Support System
Android is integrated to your Google Account, this way you do not need to create another 'Android' account for using your device. Using your Google account comes with many benefits. This includes the secured Google security systems, that uses verifications and notifications to alert you when an unusual activity is detected.

This account opens up great opportunities like Google Cloud, Gmail, YouTube accounts, Google Flights, Maps etc. that are directly connected to your Android Operating System. Features such as Contacts Backup and Track Lost Phones are some of the amazing tools Android offers through Google.
  • Versions Upgrade
In 2008, the first released version of Android was 1.0, there have been over 14 updates ever since then. Some of the famous versions were Gingerbread, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, and Marshmallow. Android version names are designed alphabetically and relate to desserts. When asked why, Randall Sarafa, a Google spokesman said "It's kind of like an internal team thing, and we prefer to be a little bit — how should I say — a bit inscrutable in the matter, I'll say. In August 2017, Android released a new update called "Android Oreo 8.0". There are still about 12 letters after 'O' for Oreo. This gives space to more upcoming versions upgrade. Every version comes with new features and upgrade of previous apps.
  • Easy Root Access
Every operating system puts some constraints for its users, thus not providing them full control over the device. To root is to take over your mobile operating system. A device that is rooted can install unapproved apps and can delete and move any unwanted applications, even the native apps such as Maps, Google Play Store, Calendar, Play Music and Google Chrome. Android Apps easily support this feature.

This feature is widely used by developers who want to use their own developed apps that are not yet approved by Google, and also users who want to use a different operating system version different to the one that came with their handset. Rooting your device also means that you forfeit your manufacture device warranty. This is one the great features that many OS do not give access to.

Android continues to attract users and creating devices that meet many user's needs. Despite competitions from other service providers like Apple and Windows, the Droid is surely the future.
